Commemorative pilgrimage: a yoga trip to costa rica WITH Indira kate and KRISTIN FIORE

Location: Pavones Yoga Center, Costa Rica

Cost: $1495 per person before Nov 1, $1650 per person after Nov 1. Note: Prices are based on double occupancy rooms with en-suite full bath and air conditioning. Inquire about single or triple occupancy rates if interested.

Join Indira and Kristin to celebrate Indira’s decision to leave Costa Rica to root herself more permanently in Kalamazoo. As she prepares to release Pavones Yoga Center to a new steward, we invite you to join us in visiting and saying goodbye to her sacred yoga home with this commemorative pilgrimage. Late winter is the perfect time to warm up and enjoy the rugged terrain and natural beauty of Costa Rica, and this all-inclusive six-night yoga retreat calls us to venture into the wild unknown of nature with the support of a community of like-minded seekers.

Retreat includes twice daily yoga practices, a guided nature hike with sampling of exotic local fruit, experiential workshops with yoga philosophy, time to journal and reflect, and free time to relax and explore the remote and pristine coastline of the southern Pacific Ocean. The price also includes three meals per day (beginning with dinner Sunday and ending with breakfast Saturday) and transportation to/from Pavones Yoga Center from Golfito airport.

Optional activities include massages and bodywork, horseback riding, and surf or standup paddle lessons - price list for these options is available.

  • Please leave a check, made out to Pavones Yoga Center with a 50% deposit, at the front desk. Checks will be cashed once minimum registration numbers have been met.

  • Final payments due Dec 15. No refunds will be given after final payment – in the event of a change of plans, you are welcome to find a substitute and transfer your registration to them.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

Practice sitting, walking and guided meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn, as well as discussing the joys and challenges of practicing mindfulness in our daily lives. This is a FREE/On Donation event led by Sara Houseman and the Mindfulness Meditation Community of Kalamazoo.  Offered once a month (the third Sunday of each month) at Down Dog Yoga Center.   No meditation experience or pre-registration necessary; come give it a try!

yoga Colors: a Yoga + painting event!

Join Kristin of Down Dog Yoga Center and Lauren of Colors & Cocktails for a fun fall afternoon of yoga and painting. We'll start with an hour of yoga to stretch out and unwind our creativity, then we'll jump into a project - painting a mug (or other drinkable glassware of your choice) while we enjoy a cup of hot tea or apple cider. Want to add a little punch to the party? Feel free to bring your own favorite something to spike the tea or cider. Here’s to yoga, creativity, and community!

Partner Yoga with Mia Leibold

In this Sunday afternoon partner yoga class we will learn to support each other in poses by aligning our bodies, creating balance, and being present to share and hold space. Partner yoga is a fun way to challenge our balance, strength, and flexibility and explore the trust and surrender needed to support one another. This workshop is a great way to introduce a friend, family member, or partner to the benefits of yoga. No experience necessary - come join the fun!

Ayurvedic Fall Cleanse With Kara Aubin

Ayurveda views seasonal transitions as important opportunities for cleansing and rejuvenation. The transition from summer to fall is the perfect seasonal cue to cleanse and rejuvenate. The accumulated internal heat from summer needs to be cleared, and we need to build our vital essences to carry us through the drying and cooling transition of fall and winter. This workshop takes an Ayurvedic approach to cleansing and rejuvenation, a gentle effective approach to leave you feeling clearer, cleaner, and renewed.

Signs that a Fall Rejuvenation could be right for you? You experience hot flashes, acidity, hives, rash, urticaria, irritability, or other signs of high Pitta, and/or you experience dryness, cracking/popping joints, anxiety, insomnia, low digestion, or constipation as you move into autumn. This rejuvenation weekend will address the junction of both types of imbalances and create quick shifts in your wellness AND send you home with diet and lifestyle practices that create lasting change throughout the year.

The Ayurvedic Fall Rejuvenation Cleanse includes:

  • Three sessions: Friday 6:00pm-8:30pm, Saturday 8:30am-4:00pm, and Sunday 8:30am-11:30am

  • Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle teachings, pre and post-cleanse suggested practices, recipes, and shopping list.

MOM & BABY YOGA WORKSHOP with Johanna potter

Enjoy Yoga with your baby in this fun postnatal class!  The first half of class focuses on mom, stretching and strengthening with baby, and the last half focuses on baby stretches and massage.  The benefits to your baby include stimulated circulation, increased body awareness, improved sleep patterns, relief from gas and colic, and relaxation.  Let yoga and massage deepen the bond between you and explore how Yoga can support you during this busy time of caring for a new baby.  This workshop is designed for babies under 12 months or before walking.

In this sound immersion, Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, tuning forks and other sound instruments will be used to help our busy minds down-shift to relaxation, meditation, and a deep state healing. No previous experience in music or meditation is necessary. This special sound experience is led by Judy Huxmann, a Kalamazoo-based sound therapist and retired yoga instructor and massage therapist.

Enjoy this special Thanksgiving weekend practice that focuses on resting, supporting, and restoring your body and spirit for the holiday season. Settle in, supported by props, and allow yourself to unwind under Cynthia's care and guidance. Looking for something fun to do on a Friday night? Stop by our December Art Hop & Open House, featuring a variety of local artisans. We’ll have holiday shopping, local art, and snacks to enjoy! Down Dog staff will also be present to answer any questions about yoga, chiropractic care, and Ayurvedic appointments. Plus massage therapist, Elise Morris will be offering chair massage - the perfect compliment to browsing local artwork downtown on a Friday evening. We also invite you to attend our Friday Heated Vinyasa at 5:30pm before heading out to Art Hop and a fun night in downtown Kalamazoo. Showers are available at the studio after class.

It is our natural rhythm to slow down and be more reflective in the winter months of rest and rejuvenation. Join Cynthia and Kristin for a weekend of Yin Yoga & Meditation to support this contemplative season as we dive deeper into witnessing the body and mind through slow movement and stillness. During this retreat, we will hold the intention to be present in our experience of the mind/body connection as we move towards inner peace and our personal resolve for 2020.  GilChrist provides a beautiful natural backdrop for our journey inward, and Kristin and Cynthia’s gentle guidance invites us into movement, meditation, rest, silence and connection. Join us for this lovely winter retreat - no previous yoga experience is necessary - all are welcome.

Retreat price includes:

  • (2) 2-hour yoga practices and (2) 3-hour yoga practices with Cynthia and Kristin

Meals: Saturday dinner is provided, all other meals will be on your own. GilChrist cabins include equipped kitchens, and The Hermitage has a communal kitchen as well as offering 3 meals a day.
